Default dash lights went off and won't come back on

I was driving my 99 xj 4.0 4wd auto the other night and we have some property behind my house so I went back there and when coming out I put it in 4 hi and when i went to put it back into rwd I had to slam the shift **** a little and when it went back down into 2wd all my dash lights went off as I was driving at night, all other lights work, head lights, marker lights, interior lights, all gauges work, any ideas?

Is there a specific place under the console I should be looking?

Check fuse F6 (5 amp) in the Junction Block fuse panel. If it's blown, remove the shift bezel from the TC shifter and see if the panel light wire has been pinched and shorted out - blowing the fuse. F6 protects the entire panel lights circuit, which originates at the headlamp switch dimmer function.
