Default Dash Swap Question

I know that you have to make sure that the speedo conneectors are the same when swaping the idiot dash for a gauge dash. The question is can the speedo be removed from old and installed in new dash? That way the milage is correct and no worry about speedo connector.

What year XJ? The reason I ask is that some of older XJ's that have the manual speedos can be rolled back or forward very easily. I believe you have to have a renix model though. Let me check...

Disclaimer: Modifying or otherwise misrepresenting the number of miles you have on your XJ is bad juju. Now I don't know much about voodoo or anything, but I think your soul can suspend in a bowl full of lime jello for all of eternity if you do something like this. That being said, the above link is purely for educational purposes so feel free to learn how to do it in theory, just don't put it into practise.

Just read the above referenced post. The pics of the dash when the engine is operating shows the tach not working. Does the tach work when this swap is done or is there additioal wiring do be done?

I'm not sure I understand your question. When you swap gauge clusters from a cluster without the tach to one with the tach, you DO NOT need to do any new wiring as the wiring harness is already set up for a tach. I see no photos in the link I provided where the poster was driving. In fact, if you watch the video he has posted, it clearly shows his tach moving with the RPMs.
