both mine and my buddies XJ have the same issue, so I imagine it's common. Ac blow kinda cold, but half the air is wasted blowing out the defrost vent.

How do you get the air to blow out the dash vents only?? what's broken, how do you fix it?

 

Sounds like a vacuum leak. Locate the "ball" under the right (passenger) side of the front bumper. Follow the air hoses to make sure they are all connected and are not cracked.

 

Mine did the same thing, the particular vaccum line that was broke for me was the one that runs down the left side of the engine bay (as you are facing the front of the XJ) and it's tiny. If you weren't looking for it you'd be hard to find it. Mine was hard plastic, which was brittle and I see why it broke in the first place. I threw some fuel line over each ends of it and everything worked again.

 

worked on my buddies jeep, we'll try mine next.. he did the same thing, fuel line over the broken area..
