I've had good luck with Amazon. You can enter the exact model and year and it will advise fit or not.

Be very, very cautious of there "this item will fit your vehicle" system....I had several fails with that. However, they 're great regarding shipping price.

Search for your part (and number) on Rockauto.com (great site, lots of parts) and then see if Amazon.com has it as well. For my international shipping, they are about 1/3 of the others regarding shipping...

One thing she has going in her favor is such a low mileage XJ the 4.0's are known to go easily to 250,000 on original motor my 99 has 221,000 on it and only a few small oil leaks. Still runs very strong all they need is to be is maintained like any 4x4.

looks like you've adopted another child. Cherokees tend to be like that. a pita most of the time but make you so proud the few times it actually does what you want it to.

To the original poster: Welcome to Cherokee Forum.

Regarding transfer case noises and binding on sharp turns: Since the Cherokee is a 4 X 4, are you sure it is out of 4 wheel drive?

Thanks again guys, I will be handling all the work my self as I maintain a decent size fleet of heavy equipment and trucks, I am just not versed on the jeep stuff so I greatly appreciate the short cuts. I will start with a de-greasing of everything and then go from there. The only things I do know so far with out getting it into my shop are , no sludge or mixed oil/coolant under oil fill cap, trany fluid is clean and no discoloring, radiator looks to have straight or too strong a mix of anti freeze , temp seems to run at 205 , seems a little high. no exhaust manifold leaks, needs brakes and headliner is falling down, other than a strange drive train whine or grind it runs pretty good. And yes hopefully for now this all she brings home.

Sorry if I missed this but what condition is the txr case fluid? A lot of people forget about replacing the txr case fluid.

renner: 205 temp is exactly correct.

No haven,t checked transfercase fluid too cold here, but plan on doing a full fluid change once I get some space in shop. yes it does go in and out of 4wd successfully. I will say these things are useless in snow in 2wd, it needs 4wd just to make forward motion I guess its way too light in the rear and no limited slip.

Where to buy: Another vote for Rockauto.com, also see summitracing.com.

If any of the sensors are needed (CPS, O2, etc.), go OEM. Too many aftermarket failures with those parts.

Look into using Rotella oil. I've been reading on this and another Jeep forum lately that it has the high levels of zinc that was intended for these vehicles.

Here are a couple of good threads on it:
