Death wobble- kickin' my ***
92 xj limited with 188,000 km on the stock 4.0L inline 6 which has a 3.5" rough country suspension lift, sitting on 31's. Its got death wobble. Goin down the highway at 110 km/h and hit a bump/pothole, it started the wobble and continued until i slowed down until about 40 km/h. I can manage to get it up to about 76 - 80 km/h before it starts to happen again. Its picky. Some days it will happen, and some days it wont. Just balanced and rotated my tires, installed new radius arm bushings and went around the whole front end and everything seems as it should be. Anyone have any suspects as to what could be causing this? Anything in particular i should look at/ get looked at? Its in great condition, and i need your opinion. Throw out some possibilities. Thanks everybody

I feel your pain as I spent a long time and too much money chasing down the problem.
FWIW my Jeep Wrangler's issues stemmed from tire imbalance. After purchasing 37" tires I began to experience DW for the first time. While it was obvious to me that tires had to be partly to blame, as I had not changed anything else on the Jeep, the installer kept assuring me, rebalance after rebalance, that they were performing the balancing properly. Finally after @ 4 to 5 trips to the store that installed them I called the tire manufacturer, who sent me to a company owned store where they balanced them and, two years later, I have never have had the problem again.
You'll find the culprit soon enuf, stick with it.

Most likely its a loose trac bar and or unit bearing or loose pitman arm....Have someone turn the steering wheel side to side(not running) while you watch the parts move and see if any thing else moves thats not suppose to...good luck...

Ok replace your stock track-bar with an adjustable track bar. I bought the rusty's for 130 and it's great. Replace control arm bushings then get yourself a front end alignment this fixed my problem with the wobble of DEATH!

Possible causes of DEATH WOBBLE. Isolating death wobble is a process of elimination and the root cause is not always obvious.
Note: It can oftentimes be due to a combination of things!
--------------------------------------------------------
-Front tires out of balance (try swapping fronts to rear; see if symptoms change)
-Improper lug nut torque on wheels
-Front alignment out of spec
-Loose track bar
-Worn track bar bushings
-Worn track bar end
-Bad bushings/joints in control arms
-Worn/damaged steering stabilizer (not generally a cause in and by itself)
-Worn/damaged shocks
-Worn/damaged tie rod end
-Bad U Joint
-Bad ball joint
-Loose frame mount
-Steering box loose
-Bad front hub assembly

Yeah, i was planning on doing my ball joints. I figure it only happens after i hit a pothole. I forgot to mention i already have an adjustable track bar, and a dropped pittman arm. Hopefully ill replace my ball joints soon and see if that helps the problem. I guess replacing my radius arm bushings just postponed the wobble.. Thanks again
