Default Did all sports come with "sport" logos???

Guys, Im in the market for an xj. I have been looking at them daily off CL but found a gem tonight. 98', black cherokee sport. 4dr, 5sp manual trans, 4.0, np231 t-case, chrysler 8.25 rear end...NO rust anywhere, no dents or dings, and the interior is even cleaner. Only downfall is that it has 170k miles but starts, idles, drives, shifts...great! Its even a 1 owner vehicle and has no leaks. The owner said its a sport, and so did the auto check report (same as carfax), however theres no "sport" stickers, also no "4x4" stickers. Also, doesnt say "4.0" on the trunk. Do you think it was repainted or did some come with only paint (this ones black) ?? Other than that its great and im paying $2400. Please let me know what you think, supposed to go back to finalize the deal in the morning. Thank you!

Owner could have removed all of the badging.... very common with many different vehicles. I wouldn't call 170k miles a downfall though... still has plenty of life left in it. Judge it by how well it runs and drives. XJ 4.0's will run forever... we have several on this forum that have well over 300k miles on them... one that I know of has 413k miles on the original drivetrain.

I bought mine with 184k on it. Still love it despite that. Sounds like a great jeep. Barring any other possible issues, I don't think you will be disappointed at that price. I paid 2150 for mine and despite issues I still think its a great jeep. Fixed everything for less than it would cost for another awesome vehicle!

I don't know about 97s, but ask about cooling and overheating issues, and does the AC work?

This 98' I found doesnt overheat, the guy let me take it on a 45min test drive. Drove around town and took it on the highway, never went over 210*. Id like to get it down below 200*, you think id be fine with say a 180* t-stat? Had no check engine lights, idled great, oil pressure dropped fairly low at idle (10-15psi) however remained solid at 40 while driving. No knocks, only issue Iv found is when braking I hear a thud noise when coming to a stop (coming from the rear end). Im thinking its something with the rear brakes, il go over them and if not, il do a drain, inspect, and fill on the rear diff. Dont know if it has posi or not, il find out tmrw. The ac blew so cold I almost had to put a jacket on, so id say its working

Its a one owner but they traded it into the local jeep dealer who ran it through an auction and a wholesaler bought it. He wouldnt have any idea but all in all the paint, rather original or not, is in good shape. I kinda like it all black, but il buy the sport and 4x4 decals off ebay.

Sounds like you have a nice find! Reminds me of my XJ - missing everything but JeeP on the front and back and CHER0KEE SP0RT on the doors as the Os were turned sideways. (99+ came with 3D letters on the door, 98 and 97 had a basic decal on the fender). He said he had repainted it and they weren't paying attention (probably drunk). Look underneath for floor and rocket rust. Mine looks swell on the outside but you can pretty much get your foot through the floors lol
