Did more damage than good
Hi all. First post here. I used some reference on this site recently to fix a common window problem on my 2001 jeep Cherokee sport. The fix was shown to jump a wire from the window lock to some wire on the door lock switch. After I fixed that my check engine light when on and I'm now overheating at idle in traffic. Could I have shorted my electric fan in the process. Just looking for a little advice here.
On another note. I've been experiencing an annoying shake in the jeep mostly at idle. Was thinking it may be worn motor and tranny mounts. It causes rattling that seems to come from the rear end but my muffler and cat are very secure. Any advice here would be much appreciated. I've owned the car for 6 years it has 130k miles on it and I'd love to see 330k. I feel like I'm at an inflection point right now and need to take care of the jeep
Thanks
Barry

Check some wiring diagrams to see if the two are linked at all, but you can also test for voltage at the plug for the fan. I assume you know for sure the fan is not turning on at all?
If the problem is your mounts, you should be able to tell from looking at them. Even if your exhaust is secure, that doesn't mean it isn't secured against something it can rattle against. your flex plate could make a similar noise but doesn't explain the whole vehicle shaking.
I am terrible with electrical stuff, but someone should be able to rule out if jumping the wires could potentially cause your issue.

Loose internal baffles can cause a muffler that otherwise looks good to rattle.
(Give it a couple of thumps with the heel of your hand.)
An engine shake at idle could be compounded by bad motor mounts.
Motor mounts aren't difficult to replace, I'd be more concerned with the cause of the shake.
Windows and locks do share some circuitry, but I can't help you with that one, I crank my own. sorry

Have you checked to see what code triggered your CEL? Are you seeing temps above 210*F on your coolant temp indicator?

Could very easily be a complete coincidence...
BUT, from the sounds of it, you may have followed some misleading instructions on fixing the power window issue.
The fix for the non-working passenger door switches is as easy as inserting a paper clip into a wire connector, just making sure you put the clip into the prongs on the two correct wires (a tan and a yellow, if I'm not mistaken).
What this does is cancels out the "Passenger Window Lockout Switch", by basically removing it from the circuit, so the passenger windows cannot be locked out by the button.
If you had to cut wires and splice them together, you went too far, and let's hope you picked the correct wires.

I dont want to alarm you, but overheating issues should be taken very seriously, especially in your case. See, you have a 2001 which has a head that is very prone to cracking- which then causes overheating and in some cases will cause the engine to mis-fire ( think about vibration). It may be purly coincidence that these two symptoms popped up after you did your wiring.
