Exclamation A different brake conversion question.

I have a 1990 XJ. It has the Bendix 9 brake system on it. I want to rip out my non working piece of crap Bendix system, and replace it with a 2002+ WJ system.
I have read all the conversions on here that go from the regular abs system to the 02+, but no one has done a write up on the Bendix. You know, the 1700-2000 psi ball thing.

Has anyone seen a write up like this? I dont want to spend the $830 plus labor at the local dealership. It would help a TON!

Don't give the stealership your money. You can do your own brakes. We can help you.

We aren't all thieves you know...

Back to the OP... find a "parts Jeep" to rip the braking system out.

Or go to the junkyard, make sure you get all of it.

dude.

why on earth do you even want ABS anyways? it's worthless crap.

just upgrade to the 96 booster, throw in WJ front knuckles, hubs, brakes, and tie rod/drag link for an OTK steering upgrade and 16" brake upgrade, nab a set of ZJ rear disc setups, adapt them to fit your rear, and bolt them on. bleed system then you have 4 wheel discs.

ABS is FAR inferior in my honest opinion. I couldn't stop worth a damn because of the ABS in my company van...so I pulled the ABS fuse and relay. hell, my boss would even prefer that I did it the way I did.

ABS....for people who shouldn't be driving anyways (no offense, but seriously it's not hard to control brakes)

No, Ol"Blue, but thanks for the link. I am starting out with the Bendix 9 brake system. here is a pic of the 1700-2000psi pressure ball and set up that I am starting out with.

Notice no booster.

JeepCoMJ - while I would love to do that, I don't have the money too, and actually I asked about that front brake swap but no one knew what I was talking about,(anyway thats a while down the trail when I have some disposable income).

solderjunkie - There are plenty of legit stealerships around.....just not around me.

I have worked on brakes before and don't usually have a problem, but this system kinda throws me for a loop.

*sigh*.

to do a WJ front brake swap, you will NEED to convert to WJ knuckles, tie rod, and drag-link, and use the WJ unit bearing.

so, what I suggested is actually necessary...the 16" brakes and calipers won't mount to renix or even H.O. cherokee knuckles and unit bearings....and the unit bearings won't bolt into the renix/H.O. knuckles.

That looks like hydro-boost to me. If you get a normal booster such as the dual diaphragm one mentioned in an earlier post, It should just be a matter of capping off the power steering lines and maybe slight modification of the pedal/linkage inside. If you are going to go to the effort, you might as well do the WJ swap while your at it. If not, just go to the JY and get one off an XJ with a vacuum booster. As long as you get all the parts, it shouldn't be very hard.

Ok, thank you.
As for the front brake swap, I don't have the funds to do that now, all I wanted to do was the master cylinder and booster for now and was just wondering if it would be the same procedure as I've seen before, and it looks like it is.
If I need anymore help I will post again.
Thanks all.

JeepCoMJ...I have a 91 XJ. What year WJ is best to get the knuckle, draglink, tierod and brakes off of for my Jeep? What year ZJ to get the rear brakes off of. I have an 87 XJ rear D44 in my 91.

I don't think year much matters...it just needs to be a "newer" ZJ with discs in the rear, and presumably any year WJ.
