Diiiiie ABS
#16
ABS brakes NEVER EVER "simply stops applying brake pressure". Like someone else stated, it begins pulsating your brakes, no different than you pumping your brake pedal in a sudden stop situation. The only difference is that an ABS system will always pump your brakes faster than you can. This prevents wheel lock up and allows you to maintain full control of your steering. Now, unless you think you can control your vehicle better with your wheels locked up than you could with them still rolling, pull your ABS fuse would be my best advice. But then again, you did say that one time you "slammed the car in park, back to neutral, shut it off, and then used non power brakes to stop you from going straight out in front of a semi". So not only did you lock up your rear wheels(or snapped the park pawl in you trans), but you also lost power steering and the ability to accelerate quickly if needed.
do you deal with 12" or higher snow falls in one night?
I did everything as best as I can. when the brakes are pulsing that fast, with as much snow as there is in my area, I have to take up to 2 miles to actually get to a full stop from 55. without abs, I take less than a mile...I feel something lock, I let go. better yet, I also downshift to get myself mostly slowed down.
and I'm not kidding you, when I had to slam it to park, I was out of options. because I was going to hit that semi. I missed him by less than a foot.

Although what you say may hold true on some dry paved surfaces, I don't care how good a driver is or thinks he is, when it comes to slick surfaces(ice, snow, etc.)I know for a fact and from experience that you WILL have better control of any vehicle in a panic stop situation if it is equipped with an ABS system.
off road is a differnt story, just pull the fuse

when i had a explorer it had abs and i nearly got in quite a few accidents cuz the tires were sliding so the brakes wouldnt work at all :P my xj never had abs but if it did i would deff disable it

Obviously, your ABS was not working if your tires were sliding, because thats the whole point of an ABS system...it prevents tires from sliding. So those accidents you had were basically a non ABS vehicle. Guess what would happen if you had properly functioning ABS.....NO TIRE SLIDE!

While were on the subject I have a'90 with bendix and I absolutely cant stand it. I came too close to rear ending someone the other day. My question is if there is a way to make this bendix not suck without just deleting the abs entirely.
