dimmer switch/headlights/parkinglight switch removal?????
#31
Almost sundown
I was removing the stock radio today so tomorrow I could install and aftermarket one.. went ahead to the parts house to get a harness and when I go to leave.. its near dusk and i pull my headlights.. marker lights came on but no beams.. i twisted it back and forth and the dimmer is working... then i pushed it back in and pulled.. to have end up with the **** in my head... i know this is an issue ima have to replace but is it the cause of no headlights OR no foglights (stock)
Thank you,
Thomas

I have been trying to get mine out for about a week and failing. I searched for a write-up, found this, and followed it. Now the switch is out, and I can get the new one in

Sorry if this is a dumb question, new to doing my own work.. thanks in advance

It should be the same way to get the switch out, but before you do that or spend money on a new switch be sure all your fuses are good. After I replaced my switch(PITA!!!) I found out it was just a blown fuse

Headlight Switch Plunger Pulled Out Of Switch Assembly
Here's a mystery for you.... I went to turn on the headlights in my 1996 Cherokee and I ended up with the plunger part in my hand. I purchased a new switch at my local parts store which was very close but not an exact match to the original. I put the switch in but now I don't have tail lights when the head lights are on. The tail lights light up when you pull the plunger to turn on the running lights as you would expect but when you go further to turn on the headlights the tail lights go off. I'm thinking that this shows that the lights themselves are working (i.e. grounded, good bulbs) but something must be wired wrong at the switch. The rear brake lights work fine. I exchanged the new switch for another just to be sure I didn't get a bad one but got exactly the same results. I went to the dealership's parts department and found that they had exactly the same switch I had already tried twice.... Swapping the switch seemed pretty straight forward and there really wasn't a way mix the wires up. Has anybody ever had this problem??
