Dirty little rotten thieves
JUST finished the 4.5 inch lift on my 2000 XJ
Parked it for the night as you see it. Took picture at approx. 4:30 PM Sunday evening.
Got up at 4:AM to go to work.
Hmmm funny my remote start won't stay running.. Go out to find passenger door is open and the ignition key cylinder is missing.
Dumb shyts left foot prints all through the newly fallen 4 inches of snow. You could see them slowly walking up to jeep and then running like their a$$ was on fire in the other direction.
Ok that's bad enough. Got fire and theft on it but it's $500 deductible. I have a parts jeep right behind it to swap out the broken parts. And I did, in record time. Had to pull both steering columns and change the key cylinders and the broken SKIM module.
Now to have it towed to the Stealer, errrr Dealer.
Actually the former is correct.
They can't reflash the used SKIM Module to the original keys.
So $100 for towing and $400 to have a new SKIM sent FROM the states, install it and reflash the PCM. All to be done sometime next week!
WTF?!! I thought the immobilizer was to SCREW the Thieves, not me!!!
Well that's it. I had a bugger of a time getting a remote starter and theft system installed because of the little piece of crap.
Now my big question is, does anyone have any ideas on how I can get my XJ running again without being more boned than I am already?
Here is my thought., I think I need a new(er) PCM anyways because of an issue with a random misfire CEL P0306 that won't go away after ruling out all the other issues, well except a cylinder pressure test. WHICH I CAN"T DO ANYMORE!!
Sorry ,rant off.....
If I get another Fresh PCM and I disconnect the SKIM module before trying to start it should I be running again on all cylinders so to speak?
Come on forum gurus don't fail me now.

WOW
I thought someone would have something to say.
Update: I have soldered the wires that were broken on the ring around the SKIM module.
The dealership is going to try to unlock the computer again tomorrow with the "Repaired" SKIM module. It's really only an antenna to receive the code in the RFID chip in the key. I'll know by noon tomorrow whether it will work.
If not then it's a new PCM by air!!

The same bastards that stole my buddies 99.
Kids with no parental supervision out for a joy ride.
My buddy had a plan though. He keeps his Jeep on the empty line on the fuel gauge. Buggers only got 2 mile away before it ran outa gas.

Yes if you can source a pcm from a vehicle that doesn't have a skim module and install it (make sure your skim is removed) it will work. Another option is to use your existing key and skim...tape it together and hide up in the dash. Option 2 is get a new ignition cyl coded to your keys, install used pcm and have dealer program (rewrite vin) in pcm.
Good luck!
Good luck!

And no they "Can't" or more likely "won't" reprogram either the PCM or SKIM.
BTW I once worked for Snap-On. Those little tools are worth major coin up here. Every Snap-On tool box I've seen has a sticker that says "Don't ask to borrow my tools. It's how I make my living".
It'd probably be easy to ask the Pope for a blessing.

SKIM Module apparently cannot be reflashed.
I've "Repaired" the original SKIM. We'll see tomorrow if it works.

None taken!
Probably not. They are just too lazy to work harder to steal something more expensive.
Chrysler really F'd up on their ignition key system. With out the Immobilizer they are the NUMBER 1 vehicle stolen by joyriders.
It's so bad it makes the news in Detroit when the police give away FREE steering wheel locks to Chrysler owners. Google it. it's too funny.

check with your local locksmith they should be able to reprogram your jeep all they have to get is the 4 digit pin and the fact that they broke one if the replacement column should be no problem for them it will cost u less and they come out to you
