Dirty throttle body?
95 XJ.....Does anyone else have to clean their throttle body very often?
Started idling cold at 2500 rpms and hot at 1500 rpms. Removed and cleaned it now it idles fine.

you shouldn't need to clean it very often.. However more maintenance the better! Use a higher grade gas and it helps keep it a little cleaner, as well as check your air filter in the air box... A new one is cheap and helps a lot.

Depending on the extent to which you "cleaned" your throttle body, you may have alleviated a sticky idle air control valve or even remedied a vacuum leak in the process of disassembly/reassembly. Hard to say really, without a more detailed description of what was done.

Well there is not much to it, guessing it's all in the idle air valve.
My air filter looks ok, I was surprised the throttle body would get dirty very often

Every tune-up, which is 30,000 miles when you replace plugs, wires, cap and rotor.

I have had Renix and post-Renix 4.0 Jeeps. Seems the Renix ones needed more attention to this cleaning chore the the later ones.
Also, make sure the small tube and fittings from the valve cover to the intake manifold are not cracked. This will cause hidden vacuum leaks and idle performance issues. A temporary field fix it is to use some gasket sealer (HondaBond is my fav) on the cracks until you can obtain replacement parts.
