Discontinued air intake tube
So I have an 86 xj 2.5 and the air intake tube is rotten. It has these oval shaped ends and the hose is round. I hear it is an unavailable part. Any suggestions on building one? Also the hose coming from the bottom of the air filter box is also rotten... what’s it called?

Photo uploads - try to resize or compress the photos to a smaller size and see if that works.
Air intake: Find the "research" post on this forum on tips on find info and parts. It is useful even if you don't find info on the parts you need. If you are in an area that has pull it yourself salvage yards I would check those for early Cherokees and see if you can find a good intake hose. Also try eBay and the major Cherokee parts suppliers. Do your homework.

This is the hose I’m trying to replace... every Jeep specialty lot I’ve called says that I probably won’t find one. Apparently they aren’t common for this motor. Has anyone built a homemade replacement?

best bet is a junkyard. i remember my 2.5 had that, i had to wrap electrical tape around it until i could find a junkyard that had one. The bottom hose that goes to the airbox is just a pre-heater that pulls warm ambient air from around the exhaust manifold to heat the air before it enters the intake. i wouldnt lose sleep over that one unless you are restoring it.

The picture helps a lot. You might be able to replace just the flex section between the ends that go to the throttle body and air cleaner housing. Other Chrysler vehicles of that vintage might have parts that can be made to work. Have you looked at the Dorman 96060 air intake hose to see if it might work? Or there might be a Dorman part specifically for your application. If you want to make your own carefully measure the inside and outside diameters of the end pieces and determine what works best - a hose that fits inside the end pieces or over the outside diameter. General duct hose is available in different diameters from places such as Summit Racing and Pegasus Auto Racing Supplies. Search for air duct, silicone duct, air inlet, air intake, etc. Partsgeek.com and others have preheat hose identified to work for your other needed piece.

I finally was able to see the image. That looks like a different size. You can find duct material (like for dryers) at hardware stores or home improvement stores and clamp each end with a ring gear clamp of sufficient size. You do want a well sealed and possibly hermetic connection since it keeps only filtered air going into the carburetor. Tape can be your friend.
If you can find rubber tubing of the correct diameter, then that should work pretty easily since it is mostly a straight shot. The ends might need to be cut at angles for a better connection and seal. You could do rubber at each platic connection, then PVC pipe better the newly made rubber boots. The materials used won't be exposed to extreme heat nor oil nor gasoline.
