Do fuel and/or engine additives work?

after sitting for a while your jeep will have a bunch of crap filled in the engine. Even while it is being used you will build up carbon deposits. The last time I changed my oil i ended up replacing my rear main seal. I noticed all the deposits and wondered what to clean it with. A friend told me to throw a quart of ATF in. I was nervous about it but i said ok... a week later I went to replace the valve cover gasket and it was completely clean underneath. When i changed the oil again all the carbon deposits came with it and it was nasty. My engine looks brand new inside at 150000 miles. Thats because ATF is basically hydraulic fluid with cleaning additives. I highly suggest putting a quart in your engine at every oil change

Do you use the ATF as an flush or do you use it as an additive and let it in there till the next oil change ??
Seafoamed mine yesterday and I'm just waiting for the 100 mile mark before I change the oil.
ONE OTHER THING I got the three o-ring set for the oil adapter from my local stealer ($9.48 OTD) but how in the hell do you get into removing the adapter.
The T60 Torx socket is too big on the ratchet to fit between the adapter and the framrail. I tried to find just the T60 as a bit from Advance, NAPA, Carquest, and MAC Tools but no luck. What do you guy's recommend, buy the socket and cut the head off, or find a socket with the drift pin in it and remove it, or what

well my engiine was dirty enough the first time that i flushed it after 2000 miles and it was clean but i put another quart in when i change the oil just too keep the carbon particles at the bottom of the pan... this aslo reduces the risk of getting a jammed pushrod or or stuck lifter. As for your adapter i'm not really sure
