Do I need the center caps?
Just picked up a '99 XJ (I think) sport and it didn't have the center caps. The guy I picked it up from said I need to get them or I'll wear out the hubs. Is that true? What else should I be worried about if I don't get them, or does it not even matter?
Thanks
Thanks

The guy you bought the XJ from is what is commonly referrrd to as a DAPO.
He would have stayed a PO (Previous Owner) if he hadn't opened his mouth and made that statement to you. For that he becomes a DAPO (Dumb ***** Previous Owner)
Those plastic caps are merely decorative, and serve no purpose but to cover up the ugly-looking wheel hub...they are just HUBCAPS.
You may install them at your leisure when funds allow.

I would have said, "Hey since you say they are a critical parts, why don't you replace them now or knock off a couple hundred dollars from the price. This Jeep has missing parts! What else is missing?"

Well we took $500 off of $3500 so I figured that'd be fine.
But are they really essential or am I good for awhile without them? It's not a DD or anything but I also don't want to mess anything up.
