This seller says new/longer shocks are needed to buy a 3" budget lift, is this true? Is anything else needed?

Yes, you'll need longer shocks with that kit otherwise they'll be fully extended when the Jeep is sitting level. You'll go to flex and snap em off. I would save your money and get a better kit though. Those add-a-leafs are gonna be sagging in a half a year, but you know what they say, "You get what you pay for"

Just save the money and look into a Rusty Off Road or Rough Country lift....those are on the cheaper end, and they're good kits.

read this.

there are some very good off the shelf shock options in this article. I like the way stock shocks ride compared to cheap lift shocks

x2 on the link posted above. I was trying to find it, but couldn't stumble across it again. I'm pretty sure ZJ UpCountry shocks should do the trick for the front and MJ shocks for the rear. My RC Nitro 9000s ride pretty smooth, but anything is better than what I had before. The old shocks didn't even expand, I pushed them in and they just stayed there.

i got a massive word document with all the links i have found usefull in the build of my jeep. My jeep is pretty much generated from write ups. The only thing i buy is stuff i cant make or find at junkyards (shocks and coil springs are the only 2 things). everything else you can find a write up on how to make

If you're getting Grand Cherokee shocks, they have to be shocks for the UpCountry package because they were higher from the factory.

Looks like you would need bar pin eliminators considering the XJ uses a bar pin style shock and I see no bar pins. Not a big deal, though. I guess you'd be able to use those. Wouldn't be able to tell you for sure unless I saw the other 2 shocks. But, if you got bar pin eliminators, those 2 shocks would work for the rear. If you can get a picture of the other 2 shocks, I can tell you if they'll work.
