I don't know where you are. If I was in your shoes and looking for an engine for an XJ I'd be looking here:

Hey Larry, How the heck are ya ?
This ^^
I never said I was one, only that it made it difficult to read (at least for me) Plus I do believe spelin is different than grammer .
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grammar , no referance to spelling.
Pours oil in for "wet" comp test, of course it will burn oil after.
Mention of dirty injectors, OP might look into that a bit more.
Though you might have fried your engine overheating.
As to the dog, mine didn't bit the J.W. when they came knocking, but doesn't mean I agree or will join.
Was it the wobbly pops that made it difficult? Was rather late.
Almido: You have a tree trunk in your eye. What kind of auto repair teacher would keep driving a vehical SEVERAL times until it steamed??
Answer me that !! I hope you use your own example in future classes on "What not to do"
JMHO, your results may, and will vary. Don't care if they do or don't.

I'm sure you didn't understand my plank comments, No worries mate....
I've got 240k on mine and I'm staring down the barrel of an engine replacement soon anyway. However, you have no idea what other issues can cause someone to press-onward in spite of overheating. Temp, traffic, isolation, a need to be on the job on time, etc.
What I had was the typical jeep radiator failure at the top/right. It wasn't ever without water even though it was "steaming", it was only 28 degrees out so everything over body temp. looks like steam.
FYI My students took it apart, put the new radiator in and it runs excellent. As an ASE Master Tech with likely more years of experience than you've been alive I know about how far I can push an engine......Oh Larry, What stories I could tell you !
Have a great Day......As long as you're on the green side of the grass I trust you will......
