Default Does the torque converter spin at idle?

Okay gents can anyone tell me if the torque converter is spinning at idle? I'm getting the worst vibration at idle at reverse when I lightly tap on the pedal. I have roughly 180xxx miles on my beast, I can only feel and visible see it at idle I have new motor and tranny mounts in... I feel like something in the torque converter is off balance causing the vibes/shake. And at higher idle speed it smooths out. I checked harmonic balancer and she's solid.

The torque converter spins any time the engine is running.

The pump side spins whenever the engine is running since it's connected to the flywheel. If in gear and vehicle stopped the turbine side doesn't. In N likely all of it spins since there's no load.

Could it be possible that something inside there is off balance ?

I'm no expert but feel it's more likely the engine or something driven off the front.

No difference in TC behavior in reverse vs forward gears

I'd check u-joints

Reverse when lightly stepping on the pedal is more violent then at idle.

just a thought I had crazy idle vibs in my xj and it was the exhaust/trans mount /crossmember rubbing after I dented my tc cross member. It shook the whole jeep. Have you checked the exhaust?

X2. I get this randomly and found a bad mount. Check your trans mount and engine mounts as well.

If I were you I'd check ALL mounts first then check the joints second.

A broken band will show signs in more than just one gear.

Default And Check Again

If you bought "economy" motor mounts they could be causing it. Also, when I change all the mounts I don't tighten them completely until I start the engine and run it in the new mounts a few minutes, revving it up a time or two to let it nest where it's comfy.

BTW, I never use poly mounts unless I'm building a race car. Of course some racers need solid mounts but many use something stiffer than stock so we use poly. A Jeep should have stock FACTORY GRADE mounts and nothing "less" like what you get at most of the discount parts stores.
