This doesnt belong in my oil
Well I decided to revisit my engine knock and I got a swift kick where the sun don't shine. I pulled the oil pan to look for broken piston skirts and insted of nice golden oil flowing from my pan it was what you see below. Lovely mix of coolant oil and gasoline. But no broken skirts. Just bad rod bearings tomorrow I will pull the head to get a full picture but I don't expect anything good. Trying to decide now to rebuild or reman.

I pulled the head yesterday and I found pretty much what I expected. Cylinders 3,4 and 5 had an inch of coolant in them. The gasket wasn't in rough shape tho but I will take the head and block for magnafluxing before I make my decision on weather or not to rebuild

199,472. I was feeling optimistic when I got the jeep so I bet my jeepin buddy the motor would make it to 300K. well it never even made it out of my drive way......... come to find out, This jeep has had 3 owners including me. first owner babied the jeep and used it as a hauler. second owner only had it 6 months and put a real hurting on it. They drove it with a shot water pump, filled the cooling system with only water, dove around with a rusted thermostat, overheated it without the accessory fan and clutch fan shroud so now I am left making right all the wrongs the PO did to this jeep.

I wonder which one had the pan off. the one who babied it it, or the one who hurt it? Coolant in 3 cyls? Overheating? Gotta wonder about that head gasket. Guess you'll find out. Thanks for the picks! Love that *****.

Here is the head gasket, it really doesn't look odd there is some heavy carbon build up in the middle the breaks are from pulling it off the block. At this point I think the head is warped but I still have to wrestle the head back on the block to test my theory. It's been badly abused so I'm guessing warping is the tip of the ice berg.

I was in the same boat when I bought mine but didnt have anything in my oil. My 95 head was warped, cracked and burning coolant. I just picked up another head from the junkyard, slapped it on 2 days before a cross country trip and continued to beat on it for another 30K. Sure my bearings are bad and it sounds like a diesel at 230K but I still get 16mpg+. I figured spending $100 bucks or whatever the head replacement costed was better and allowed me to find a deal on a spare motor without a time crunch. Now I'm just driving it till it dies which doesnt seem like soon, but I have a spare motor just incase

The worst part about buying a used vehicle is the possibility that retards owned it at one point. Mine went through two abusive relationships with PO's and sometimes...I want to hurt them.

Take the head to a machine shop and see if they can mill it to get rid of the warp. It's better to work with a known problem than to get something in an unknown condition. If they can work with it, have them do a valve job while you have it apart.

You could use any good straightedge, carpenters level ect and a feeler gauge to get an idea of warpage. Don't know the speck, anything over .004 can't be that good. I used a piece if fishing line once just for a quick look
Of course you want to take it in unless you can see cracks.

I took Dflintstone's advise and rather than Wrestle the 70lb hunk of cast iron up from my basement and into the block, I used a straight edge and the feeler gauge in the center of the head I could fit a .016....... So I am going to say yes it is warped. I didnt get much further because I ran out to meat someone for my "new" engine stand. $20 on Craigslist.
