I know it can be do e for cheep but I found this reman for $1350 and the machine work for the current block was quoted at like $1500. But since there is no core for this engine so I'm going to hang on to the block. Maybe in the future I can rebuild this engine into a striker and drop it into another jeep. You know I have always liked yjs................

Only 300 for machine work?! Thats super cheap! I paid $255 for them to clean, inspect, bore .04, hone, install cam bearings, oil galley plugs, and freeze plugs for the block. Then I paid 300 for them to clean, inspect, 3 angle valve job, install valve seals, and install plugs. Next week I have to pick up my crankshaft which is gonna be 200...
All in all I think I have dropped about $800 in machine work! Did they just work on your block?

Mid way thru the removal. All went well I had to run to ACE to get some longer bolts to hold it to the stand properly.

Very cool! You will have a little swing-set when you are done. I once put the back of a boat trailer against the base of a tree and rigged up a come-along to improvise a cherry picker. That old Ford motor was no "cherry" though. They should be called "Cherry Planters".

It's out and it's in my little shop area. Before you ask yes I did put it in my basement. Why? That is my only real work space for something like this. Not ideal but I work with what I have. It wasn't until I began to pull the rest if it apart that it gave off this pungent petrol smell, like badly burnt oil. The rest if the engine was in relatively good shape. The worst thing was the "water jacket" I will call it or coolant path. Had a good thick layer of rust all along the inside from the water that had been put in it.

How did your crank and cyclinder walls look? Mine were badly torn apart... I also had a chip in one of the lobes on my camshaft... I know the smell your talking about it almost seems like it could choke you out! Haha.

The smell was so bad I had to let it air out for a while before I could continue, each main cap I removed seemed to make it worse. With the pistons out and under some good lighting you can really see grooves in the cylinder walls. The piston skirts really left their mark. The crabs shaft is in good shape. No dings or dents.

Hahaha right! I had to do the same thing! I felt a little buzzed after I called it a night and went to bed!

What should the injectors Ohm out to? I have a 94 service manual but I don't know if there is a difference between the injectors from 94 to 96. I know that there are a lot of little differences between 94 and 95 and then 95 and 96

Edit:i did a search to make sure and they should ohm the same.
I just checked all my injectors and the ohm reading was 12. All of them ohm out to the same. I am correct that they should be 14.5 +/- 1.2?

I just cleaned the heavy grease off the side of the block and there is this letter sequence. I have no idea what it corresponds to. I know it lines up with the pistons but D repeats 3 times. C D A D B D. Does any body have any ideas?

That's the size of the bearings. Being that there's 6, my guess is that's for the connecting rods. Personally, I'd use some plastigage to make my own determination of bearing sizes.

You are spot on. Good call I looked at the bearings and found those letters stamped into them.
The engine showed up today while I'm here at work, about a week before expected it, so I couldn't get it into my shop as I had planed but it's here.
I'm going to start work on it Saturday.

I have been hard at work prepping the engine to go back in. I have sent the injectors out to be tested and cleaned. I built it up most of the way. I need a new water pump and a new clutch fan blade as a result of my little accident with the stand. I was rotating the engine and the stand started to tip and there was little I could do to stop it. I managed to let it down as easy as one can let a heavy chunk of iron down so all that was lost was the fan blades and the a/c compressor but I have a spare.
