Default don't kill me, engine running to cold

Pretty sure I'm the first one, my xj is running to cold even when its only 50 degrees outside. I'll start it early to warm up but once I start going it ,cools down to much, and I don't want to turn the heat on since it will take heat from the engine. I do have a 180 thermostat which ill probably replace with the stock 195. It's an 89 renix.

You might want to put in the recommended t-stat which is 195. give that a try.

Have you verified your temps? 120* - 160* with a 180* thermostat doesn't make sense...

Oh and ESAD! I can't keep mine under 220*

Once it hits 50 outside it just won't run warm enough, I've almost considered putting cardboard in front of my radiator.

Does the heater get hot? If so, maybe your gauge is wacked. We run a 180 stat year round, the heater will make u sweat.

Again we're confused... So you're saying right now with the current temps it runs between 180 and 210. But once the ambient temp gets to around 50* it won't go above 120 - 160?

If that is the case putting in a 195* thermostat would help. I'm guessing yours is stuck open, or opens right around 160*. Blocking your radiator with cardboard would probably help but it's better to just fix the problem.
