Default Donut gasket wont fit on my new manifold

Hi!

I am replacing my cracked manifold on my 96 xj with a 4.0 but the donut gasket that was included with my manifold doesnt seem to fit.
The donuts inner diameter is to small to get flush on the manifold, see gap in the picture, and i have tried with another donut gasket for a 4.0 i had laying around and it has the same issue.
On my old manifold the donut is installed "flush" to the manifold but perhaps it doesnt have to be but the flange will deform it enough to not leak?
Is there anybody else who has had the same issue and should i try mounting it as it is or do i need another donut gasket?

Mount it. It will compress down when you torque ot to spec.

Does the pipe have a lip on it from the cut of the pipe , you mite need to file it down a bit so the new donut can fit ,

Same issue I had with one of my dorman replacements. There was no way it was correct. I had a few ebay one on hand that fit correctly.

I had a similar problem. I ended up getting some longer bolts to put between the downpipe and the manifold and the donut gasket eventually compressed and went on. I then was able to put the original, shorter bolts back in. Not sure if there is a better fitting donut out there, but my method worked.

I was able to get a felpro gasket the next day so i waited and it fit perfectly. I guess those cheaper ones are made with poor tolerances.
