Default Door electrical nightmare

Well just spent a good 2+ hours working on my electrical problems and then another hr searching this site lol. my '90 xj has power windows and locks, and everything worked when I bought it. I used a test light for power at the switch and used a test wire for each window, everything works. Is there a ground that goes bad at the switch? i have repaired some wires when i bought it. I have a black wire coming off the switch that I assume is ground but it goes into what I can see as a speaker connector. can anyone tell me the color coding for that year? the up down wires i can figure out easy its the power and grounds i mainly need....ones i have power out of now are red and purple...HELP!

What switch? Which door are we talking about? Color coding of which wire? Solid red and solid purple, purple/red striped or red/purple striped? Are there broken wires? Which ones did you repair? Whats not working? Started with a simple things like fuses?

Theres guys on here with FSMs and 90 XJ's, that would probably help you out, but we need to know whats wrong.

Thats just my problem lol. The circuit breaker is fine, switched it with the power seats and works. I can pull the wire block (for lack of a better word) from the back of my switches on the driver side door and get power out of the red wire and purple wire. if i cross that red wire with the left front window wire (up or down) and ground it i can get it to work. So now i am suspecting either a bad ground or switch. i really need to figure out what color is ground. sorry for being confusing

figured it out! after a quick switch swap with my extra door confirmed that i had a grounding issue. i suspected that the ground was the black one with the speaker wires and it was. i dont know where it grounds at but im just going to make a new spot. Now i got all my 20 year old power windows working! good day

I have had my fill of these door harnesses, This time instead of trying to hack and splice I bought the door harnesses from a wrecking yard. I will test it before I install it and I will work on the old one outside of the Jeep so I will have a spare. It is typically the driver door that goes bad because it has more wires AND it is used more than any other door. I have been doing electrical work for 15 years so I have no doubt that I can fix the harness but I am not going to do it in the rig.

My driver door speaker never worked since I got the jeep, and the passenger window control almost never works (I suspect it's the lockout switch, but I've never verified).

I have an urge to relocate the switches to the center console after seeing the interior of a Liberty. Looks like one good idea made it into that car.

I want to put a connector for the remaining wires so if I do removable door some day I can just pull a plug.

I have thought of that too! but I dont want to reroute all the wires lol. I like the single connector idea tho for the wires.

Way off topic but has anyone had ne issues with Solid brand diff covers? They move the fill plug up higher to hold more oil but i suspect that they are pushing oil out of the seals. the oil needs to expand somehow.
