edited: Oddly enough Autozone wasn't sure what it was called and couldn't find it. The guy working there had the same year as mine with the same issue so I think I'll take one over to him.
A loose pin in the door check is a symptom, but not the cause. The portion of check that is hidden in door has rollers, springs and 'humps' on the arm that the rollers pass over. The humps can change shape over time and the rollers resist passing over them, or the rollers become damaged from wear.
Left alone, a sticking/popping door check can rip out the mount on door jamb.
I sanded the the arms so the rollers can glide easier. The function of the humps is the hold the door at halfway open. End of door check should have a rubber bumper.

Thanks for the input. There is another thread on here I was just reading through as well.
I will put the pin in and pop the panel off the door to inspect the rest of the arm.

Lol, yup. I had the noisy roller issue. Fixing it was a beast.
First you open the door. Second you pop the pin out. Third you hit the arm closed. Done. Makes the doors open easier and even on windy days I dont have issues of door flying open, since its just a matter of holding it

I figured out a technique to spread the springs to remove arm. But without the check in my hands I cannot describe how I did it.
Without a check, all it takes is once for the door to overextend and bend the fender panel and door skin. I suggest installing a nylon limit strap like 'other' jeeps. My old jeep, the door ripped out of my hands when it was blowing a gale and messed up the panels. After that I always parked facing the wind. lol

Lol, see I always have that fear. But reason I aslo did it, eventually I'm going to set up for doorless and that's one thing out of the way. I'm hoping due in my winter hibernation ill set everything up

I pulled some off the rear doors of an xj because they're used less and so they aren't deformed.
