the guy i bought my jeep from told me to never lock my passenger side door because it will not unlock. i am moving to the city in a few months for college and i am going to have a bunch of expensive tools with me for school. i want to be able to lock my doors and if this door will not unlock then i have a BIG problem. he said it was just a small piece that needed to be replaced. i have absolutely no experience with door locks and would like to fix myself because i am low on cash and laid off for the week. any ideas what piece he was refering to? 96 4 door xj

if you open up the door, locate 3 torx head bolts. Unscrew them and pop off the little black covers form the door. Take off the door panel (it will come off with some convincing) and then you will be able to reach your arm up into the door (make sure the window is rolled up) grab the whole mess. Once you have it on the table get some WD40 and lube that ***** up, try to lock it with it in your hand (ie push down the little push rod that the lock would normally do) and try to unlock the door using the same method as listed above. I had the same problem, only with the door handle not opening up the door. Its a very easy fix if you know what to look for

well i will try that. are they metric torx or standard? i'm assuming metric... btw thats a bada$$ looking xj!!! i LOVE camo.. haha thanks

thanks, and i dont have any idea whether its metric or not.. i have a set of "standard torx drivers" that have the size needed..
