I would expect that it's because most people buying the Dorman or Crown heavy-duty springs want increased weight handling and the small amount of increased arch (and therefore lift) that they provide. The General springs appear to either "restore original height" (545 lb, 755 lb) or don't specify (605 lb).

I have no doubt they're a quality spring, and they are priced right--I just like to know more about my parts before ordering them.

Just went through this myself. Ordered a pair of Dorman 929-301 from Rock Auto and received two different looking springs, one made in Mexico, the other Columbia. Had a difficult time getting a return authorization.
I contacted Dorman, their response: " They should both be the same, these are also made in Mexico. You would need to contact the place of purchase and return."

A little more $$, But I feel I'm getting a quality set of springs. They should arrive this week.

Let us know how you like them. We talk a lot around here about those General springs but no one seems to ever report on them after an install.

Installed the springs Saturday. I was worried the extra capacity of these springs would make a rough ride, this isn’t the case. The ride is firm, yet comfortable. Noticeable improvement in cornering also.

Now I have a rake to the stance, the back is a couple inches higher than the front. Definitely need to do something about that.

Could you do me a favor and measure from the center of your wheel hub to the bottom of the fender flare lip? I would like to compare the height of these to the Dormans and Crowns.

Thanks! That is measuring 2" of lift from stock, which is about 1" higher than the Dorman or Crown leafs, unless it settles.

My Crowns are about 1.25" and have pretty much always been there. But, we shouldn't be measuring from the flare anyway. It's pretty innacurate...

eh, i check from the axle as well and the flare method gives me the same measurement of lift. Flare method has been accurate for me across the xjs i have had so i usually just do that since its easier...but if i'm underneath, I'll use the other method just to make sure.

Right. IMO, the issue really isn't how consistent your measurements are, it's more an issue of how accurately one guy measures from center of hub to the bottom of the flare vs. another. Measuring from the axle to the uniframe eliminates most of the possibility for discrepancy. I do the flare measure for my comparisons as well, but it's just not overall as reliable a measurement for comparing across model years and owners.

Just a follow-up. After 3 years, the General Spring 97-547 leafs have settled 1/4", down to 18-3/4" center of hub to bottom of OEM plastic fender flare.
