Salad has a link to some resources regarding the WIX 51452 filter. It just not that it's made of heavier steel, but that the internals are supposedly beefier too and more tailored to offroad use. I just bought two off of rockauto, going to use one on the next oil change.

Purolator L14670 is also a direct replacement of the OEM filter and is readily available in most auto parts stores.

Thank you for the response...sounds like the wix 51452 is the one to get!! Is there any reason one would not want to run the 51452?

I use the 51515. I would be interested in hearing more about a better wix one if someone has anything concrete.

Ahh so this is the thread!

This is where I got my info: http://www.ihpartsamerica.com/forums...html#post64570

Burst pressure is a huge plus, but also since WIX is so application-driven the applications are a big indicator.

I'll let you guys know how my 51459 compares to a 51515 once I'm done with it

My Napa was closed yesterday so I went by O'riley's to get a Wix filter. They were out of stock in the 51515 but had a 51515R (racing - supposed to be made for racing and off-road use) and it was only @ $12, so I thought that I'd give it a try as I had never seen one before. I'll let everyone know how it does.

As I posted in the other thread, 51515R is extremely bad for your engine and you should replace it immediately. Read the link I posted above.

There is no need to drain all the oil just to replace the filter on either Renix or HO.

But the racing filter is a no-no on a street vehicle.

Yeah I got it with the draining oil thing. Once I actually thought about it, i finally realized that the filter is obviously above the level of the oil. Thanks though Firestorm for the input.

Ok, so I replaced the 51515R with a Napa Gold 1515. If I'd have thought about it, I never would have bought it in the first place.

For those that didn't know, this is what the Wix oil filter #51452 looks like.

Nice, it still has the crimpy thing at the top. What is the price difference between 51515 and 51452?

Doesn't look like the giant 7" filter would fit on there. I forgot that OBD-I XJs had the OFA pointing up at a weird angle like that.

Our Renix filters point straight up, while your Ho filters sit at half-mast, kinda limp, if you get my drift.

97+ filters sit sideways like a reliable engine should, if you get my drift.

(I did laugh)
