Default Driver Side Door Lock Mechanism (1993)

Whenever I lock my Driver-side door whether it be with the key or just pressing the lock switch on the inside it sometimes won't unlock. If i keep locking and unlocking it, it will eventually work. Could it be the Rods inside the door? when i unlock it I can hear a click like it unlocks but doesn't. I put Graphite in the key hole and it seemed to fix it for a little bit but now it is acting up again.

Sounds like it needs cleaning amd it gunked up. Best bet is probably to pull the lock and clean it all up.

ever lubed all your door latch mechanisms?

do like Boxburn suggests. Remove the door panel and lube up all the moving parts inside.

I never have. Being this is my first car and when i got it in february as embarrassing as it is to say, i didn't even know what an alternator was. But since owning this I've been doing things i never thought i would've never done. I guess lubing the lock mechanisms is next lmao.

I have found that it's helpful to start with some penetrating oil, like PB Blaster. It will act as a gentle solvent and flush out the gunk. It helps if you have an assistant who can work the mechanism while you spray liberally.

Be prepared to use the full can if that's what it takes to getting things moving freely. Then follow with a good lubricant.

Your other doors need it, too. Guaranteed. Tailgate latch, too.
