I'm hoping it's just a busted speaker or a broken wire in the door jam that I can fix quickly

With no sound coming from it, it isn't busted. As far as a broke wire in the door, maybe. But you might have I rewire the speaker to re head unit, which is a bit more in depth but should be anything extensive.

I just redid my speakers yesterday with Alpine speakers. They sound pretty good.
Door panel removal is 5 Screws and then the christmas tree clips
DESCRIPTION OF DRIVER SIDE --- FLIP FOR PASSENGER
There is a screw in the top right by the mirror, I start there and then get the one behind the door pull. There are 3 under the armrest, the far right one gets stuck sometimes so make sure youve fully unscrewed it and get a flathead screwdriver and start in bottom left corner and slip the screwdriver up once the side is done, put your hand up there and push the rest. The door pull cables will keep the door panel from falling off along with the door lock and window wiring.
IF THE RIGHT SCREW IS STUCK:
slide your hand up after you pop the clips and youll feel it, just push it through from behind.
Also, here is the link for the speakers I used if you wanna use em. Great sound

I've always used a regular screw driver to pop the pop rivets out.

Even better thread! awesome guys....
my problem is right now, my lock cylinders are seized. that being paired with im missing a scraper piece of trim on the driver window, i refuse to install my infinity speakers until the door is watertight.
im just going to get the stockers working, and im betting there will be a monster difference in sound already.

And if you had the same problem, how did you go about fixing it? Thanks.
I had the same problem, best solution is to replace the speaker all together but I took my stock speakers to best buy and they replaced all the corroded wiring and they worked just fine. I got newish Sony's in my front doors now and they're amazing.

Are you talking about the top piece of trim that it slides into under the window?

yeah i have the same problem in my '91 XJ. when i first bought it it had a really crappy aftermarket head unit in it. i swapped that out for a nice JVC and did Pioneer 5 1/4 speakers all the way around. driver side still didnt work until i messed with the wires. started working but sometimes doesnt. i just open the door while driving and slam it shut again and it works fine. haha. also i swear by pioneer speakers, only because mine have been in about 2 or 3 feet of muddy water and they still sound like i just put them in.
