google equivalent length in piping systems
its not about turbulence, there will be turbulent flow of gases inside an exhaust system almost 100%
otherwise you hit the nail on the head, lets say I run a straight 3" pipe for 10 feet, and you have a 3" pipe that overall is 7.5 feet but you have 1 90degree bend, the equivalent length of the 7.5 run will be effectively longer because 7.5ft + 3"*40 (if I remember correctly its 40)
17.5 ft

Deja vu!!
Before you dump it, check your local emissions/safet requirements. In the county I live in, you cannot dump your exhaust or have your tail pipe exit the car before the rear most exit to the cabin.
Most people dump their exhaust because they saw a hotrod with it and thought it was cool and did not know what they were actually doing. Dumpd are for high revving high horsepower drag/hotrods. Dumps only make a lot of interior noise on moderately built or stock cars because the exhaust reverberates under car abd is loud and annoying. (And I am a hotrodder and love straight pipes and glasspaks). In theory, yes, they are not cutting down on hp by putting bends in the exhaust but in reality that type of hp is only going to be extracted by you 30k motors in drag cars or nascar style engines because that final few little horsies is the last bit before the motor is topped out.
For you and I and our mostly stock or stock motors, a single pipe, probably 2.5 to3" with a decent header and straightest flowing muffler is the best thing we can in hopes of freeing up a pony or two.

I've seen a few posts about exhaust diameter... Keep in mind that the diameter can be reduced as it gets further from the head bc the exhaust gases have cooled down. Cooler gases=smaller gases=they don't require as large of a diameter pipe... just something to consider.

Side pipes mean lots more noise closer to your ears which will tire you physically as you drive because your body actively works to resist noise especially at lower frequency and sub-sonic levels . Driving a noisy vehicle for any length of time is a drag.
Consider that a slowly operating vehicle will be have more exhaust closer to the cabin. You'd be sitting in its cloud.

There you go. You have been overthinking the whole thing anyway. Consider what you plan to do with the vehicle.

I will! its easier SAID than done, plus this costs a little bit of money. For an 18 year old going to college, 4 classes, and working 35 hours a week i dont have all the time in the world to get out and do this ( or the money ) it probably wont happen for a couple months!
