Dumb question
I have a 1990 Jeep Cherokee Laredo. My headlights went out. Where's the fuse for it? or better yet, what steps should I take to troubleshoot it? The headlights are both a couple of months old.

Just low beams or high as well? Have you checked to see if your getting power to the sockets, and finally do you have the headlight harness upgrade?
The headlight switches are famous for going bad and/or melting. The way the headlights work from stock is stupid, (when working properly) if you pull the switch out power comes from the battery through the switch (thus why it melts) and back out to the headlights. This causes the headlights to be dim (a lot of lost power by the time it gets to the headlights) and causes the switch to fail. The upgraded harness adds two relays (high and low beams) that are activated by the switch and basically link the lights to the battery allowing for brighter lights and less heat and strain on the switch.

It's late and I gave it a little look. Didn't find it in my diagrams right off. I think one of the fusible links off the web of them, off your starter relay, forward of the four in a row there, shoots power to that infamous switch. The starter relay can be found in the pics in my sig. Suspect the switch, but check the mess there off your starter relay. If you just had a short that cooked it, (a link), that might be obvious. (then you need to find the short). To remove the switch there is a button, maybe on top to release the ****, so you can pull it clean out, then remove the nut, and fish the switch down and out. Cruiser will show up in a couple of hrs, might be helpful...

The headlight switch has a circuit breaker in it. My bet is the switch is fried along with the connector. First place to look. There are no headlight fuses or fuseblocks under the hood on the 90.

test your switch. Hold them in as if your going to switch between low and high. If they work then your switch is bad. If they don't then you have another issue. most-likely a fuse.

/ Btw guys, I gather the "fused links", are nothing but smaller wire. No "nifty" alloy or anything. Just a smaller section that might burn up before your Jeep does.
