Found Solution
I found an alternative hook up to the cable loop. It's really quite easy to do and has other benefits as well.
I posted it as a technical article on this site.

if your xj is lifted beyond 4.5 inches, you can use two left side yj e-brake cables. they are longer than the right side as the yj has a foot lever.
mj's do too, but i'm not sure if they are as long as the yj.
i haven't done this yet, but am about too, depending on what axles i end up buying.
