F putting corn in my gas tank!!! The facts are straight forward: Its corn, it doesnt burn like gas. And if the bump it up to 15% then yea, we are all hosed!! Our gov. Is clearly corrupt and is making moves that are completly based on self interest and with complete disregard for you and me! Why are we sitting on our hands waiting for them to go numb? This is just one of the many ways the system is wrong!!! Fight the power!

Using food to make fuel is the dumbest thing ever. Hey lets raise the price of corn (read:Food), make fuel that is less efficient and burn more diesel in the process. The only people benefiting from this is large corn growers and politicians. I was on a GM engine plant tour and the head engineer was boasting about the new chevy cruse getting 32-34 mpg and i about busted out laughing in front of everyone. I explained my 91 POS cavi got 36-38mpg easy when i had it, it dawned on me later that was before 10% ethanol was mandated

Production of ethanol from corn is 5 to 6 times less efficient than producing it from sugarcane. Ethanol production from corn is highly dependent upon subsidies and it consumes a food crop to produce fuel. The subsidies paid to fuel blenders and ethanol refineries have often been cited as the reason for driving up the price of corn, and in farmers planting more corn and the conversion of considerable land to corn (maize) production which generally consumes more fertilizers and pesticides than many other land uses.
For each billion ethanol-equivalent gallons of fuel produced and combusted in the US, the combined climate-change and health costs are $469 million for gasoline, $472–952 million for corn ethanol depending on biorefinery heat source (natural gas, corn stover, or coal) and technology, but only $123–208 million for cellulosic ethanol depending on feedstock (prairie biomass, Miscanthus, corn stover, or switchgrass).

Not that this has much to do with gas mileage in an XJ but I do know that E85 is more stable at higher temperatures, atomizes better, and allows for more aggressive timing since it has a higher detonation threshold.
In the boosted community, I've got friends running E85 on high compression motors and feeding 20psi on top with more power at safer temperatures. So I don't agree with the notion that it creates more heat.

E85 does not make an engine run hotter, it will actually run slightly cooler since the explosion in the cylinder will contain slightly less btu's, and also the fact that alcohol evaporates quicker, and easier than does gasoline, also helping cool the engine.
As far as the 15% push, congress stopped them, for now. Only because it would make a lot of vehicles useless, i.e. tractors, farm equipment etc. As of now they are talking about having pumps setup for pre- 01 vehicles using 10%, and then a 02' up pump with 15%, but this setup is also wrong. My 2004 says no more than 10%, or all powertrain warranties would be voided. The sad part is we can make ethanol out of a lot of things, corn is for food IMHO

How about " spending tons of money to 'future proof' your jeep? "
I own more motorcycles than I do Jeeps and if the EPA has their way my Jeep and Motorcycles will be effectively taken off the road and none of them can tolerate more that 10% ethanol.
Guess what?
15% minimum Ethanol mix is on the way.

Yeah, I'll try to find 'em. Maybe they weren't illeagle yet or something. I can tell you i'm dealing with soo many ethanol problmes in my shop, I love it from the business end . But it sucks for everyone. I have had the chrome peeling off the insides of fuel rails, and clogging injectors. See lots of fuel seperation from vehicles not driven a lot (think granny's car), am now seeing a rash of injectors leaking, etc, etc.
Edit; I am sorry they have tried to make it illeagle several times, but none have passed. Our last Governer though is the one that let the ethanol in to meet federal qoutas for renewable fuels...

Its different state by state but more often than not, you will find 10% ethanol. The government will be douches, like always, and keep trying to raise it to 15% but it would cost so much money thats its just not feasible.
