And remember E-brakes hold you from going forward not backward.
I thought the e-brake should hold going backwards?

Nowhere does Jeep say that when parking on a hill, always point the front of jeep downhill.
Also does not say, do not launch a boat while using e-brake.
However, I would feel safer with wheel chocks, in conjunction with e-brake, if I had a manual transmission and keep the engine running while loading/offloading a boat of significance.

Properly adjusted brakes will stop your wheels in any direction. I just replaced all my brakes and the e-brake was never touched. I adjusted the rear drums with the star wheel and the e-brake is even stronger than before (new brakes lol). The fact that the vehicle is still moving while e brake is engaged is an indicator the rear drums need adjustment.

When rear end is off the ground the tire should spin freely for only ONE rotation. And that is when you give the tire a good hard turn. If that is not the case, time for some adjustment.

If you go through all that work and you STILL have e brake issues, THEN mess with the e-brake.

Well something else is wrong then because twice we've jacked it up and adjusted the brakes so it barely makes a full turn of the tire and still e-brake doesn't hold. It will only pull on the lever to the 7th click till it's REAL hard, and even then it still rolls backwards. New brakes, springs, e-brake cables, wheel cylinders, master cylinder etc. The brakes are real good stopping, high pedal, but not the e-brake...

Default E brake

I finally got mine to hold after adjusting the cable where the two e brake cables connect. a good properly adjusted e brake will hold either direction.
