Default EGR Valve replacement part.

Read this if you are looking for a new EGR valve, as the journey has been a nightmare for me and I hope this helps someone.

1989 Cherokee Laredo 4.0L

I ordered a replacement part through Summit and it's not an exact fit. Long story short: replacement valve is a negative back pressure valve - which means there's no small pipe to connect to the bottom hose of the transducer/vacuum. Instead, the product comes with 3 orifice washers of different sizes, and on the chart on the back of the instructions tells you which washer to use.

Well, the washer I needed wasn't included. I contacted Summit and let me just tell you this: after that interaction with their customer service, I offered to send them my resume.

I digress...after Summit failed, I contacted Omix-ADA. The customer service rep was a huge help - thank you David A. at Omix! - and is hoping to find the washer to send to me. If not, he said the Omix team will try and get the size-equivalent emailed to me (example: 1/2 inch).

If you need an EGR valve, hold off on buying it until I update this thread. I think something happened with manufacturing and I don't want anyone having anymore stress added on to what stress we Jeep owners already have, ha.

As soon as David/Omix have an answer for me, I will update everyone.

Cheers.

Some of us have to deal with the smog *****, and pass inspection. Commifornia is known for this, forcing you to source unattainable, or very expensive original parts, no substitutes allowed! I have failed inspection for having the "wrong" emissions hose on a non Jeep vehicle. The factory hose is a complex shape with different diameter ports, the but after 30 years it leaked. A new hose was made up using copper plumbing elbows and reducers along with regular emissions rated rubber hose, worked great, and cost a lot less than the factory hose which was outrageous in price, a tiny molded hose, not even a foot in length was about $100!
Now I passed smog inspection with my homemade hose over many years, then one year the smog guy failed me for that hose, he told me it HAD to be an original part or approved serial numbered hose ONLY. (no matter my exhaust test passed great, and my home made hose was 100% functional).
My car was given the scarlet letter, the DMV notified. I had to buy the factory hose.

Yes blank it off and keep the valve in a space climate controlled, secured location, Install it for inspection time only. I have several older cars that I was fortunate to buy some of the last available NOS smog inspection REQUIRED parts. They are like gold, for without your car cant be registered. UGH!!!!!!

I managed to score one a few years back when I thought I needed one (with transducer). Was pretty much the last one around.

As robsjeep said, for some of us, delete is not an option.

I failed once because the preheat hose (from airbox to exh manifold) was missing. I had replaced my cracked exh manifold and the hose just fell apart. Found a suitable one at a VW speed shop, of all places, as no one had something suitable.

Wait until you need a CA compliant cat!!!

I did that 43 years go.

I likely have EGR valves and transducers in my shed.
