Electric Bugaloo (Trans, Headlight and Gauges)
Hi,
I have a 1998 XJ with the 4.0L and AW4 auto transmission, and a host of electrical problems that have only occurred in the past few months. Only the drivers side headlight works, the instrument panel lights up with the red airbag warning light but the needles don't move even with the force of god smacked into them, and my transmission will not shift out of first gear automatically. I just had a new 4.0L installed and put in, finished today. Cause of death to the motor was shredded bearings, probably heat and circulation issues.
The headlight was the first to go out, gradually went from intermittent to dead. Then the CPS went out and threw a codes and a cacophony of jeep sounds, replaced with a 98 Mopar cps, all problems related to running fixed.
Then gauges started to intermittently go out, eventually dead. After this motor install, I'm assuming that the transmission is the next on the kill list since it will not shift out of first gear unless manually put into lower gears, after that runs fine.
confused on where to start I guess, grounds? Testing of sensor?
What causes a full lightning strike on a XJ like this? Grateful for any insight

Grounds. Always start with grounds. See my sig for a link to a thread that shows all the ground locations.
