Yea fan comes on with a/c, and a/c works, still doesn't overheat

I will check/replace the tps and check grounds.

Thanks!

Yea maybe, doesn't seem it was used off road though, still has stock mud flaps...who knows, I'm over the fan issue for now, idle issue seems to be happening more frequently

About the only thing I would complain about, is after getting the fan working properly I took it out on the gravel roads and well "jeep" roads to make sure it didn't overheat in extreme conditions, it never got close to overheating, but every once in a while when I would come to a stop it would high idle, around 1500-2000rpm, didn't matter weather I was in gear or if I put it in neutral, it would stay high idle. It would only last 10-20 seconds, but its not right...
I've replaced both ccv hoses coming off valve cover...inside the valve cover had lots of gunk , or at least where the hoses went through. Other than the high idle issue (really only happened in the woods...seemed mostly after climbing up hill for awhile...??) it been running good.
ever clean iac motor?

I always start at the throttle position sensor adjustment for idle issues.

I will work on it this weekend and report back. Figure I should probably clean the iac anyways, then if problem continues I'll go to the tps.
Thanks again, I'll report back after the weekend

The previous owner must have had a problem with the fan not turning on or an oveheating problem. The temp sensor for your fan might be bad but I'd just cut the hot wire to your fan and run a switch and a relay to it so you can turn your fan on when you want to.... Just keep wise of your temp and don't let it get above about 210ish before you turn on the fan. For some reason my 88 runs at a constant 180 no matter if it's Floored or idling. I think the old owner took out my thermostat cuz I have blue rtv on my water inlet/outlet when there should be a gasket. Oh well I'm not complaining.

My opinion: these are designed to run around or just under 210 degrees, therefore I believe the best performance and fuel consumption will come from the engine running in these temps. That being said, my temp sensor seems fine and all is working properly, like I said before...
Yes, most likely there was a reason the fan was wired on, but this could have been before the po I bought it from (he might have bought it with bad pressure bottle and rigged fan), then the po I bought from did pressure bottle and flush, maybe just didn't know to unrig the fan. Either way, I'm over the fan issue for now unless it tries to overheat which is not happening at all.

See I feel like mine runs cool now. 195-200. Hot days on trails moving slow it will get up to 215 but the fan kicks on and cools it right down.

Your rigged issue is going to be my salvation. lol. I need to see if my electrical fan work, because it does not run, at all, and thanks to your thread, I can kind of go backwards from where you are at to solve it, so thanks. These threads often help somebody in a completely differant boat.

Glad to hear its helping someone else. Just use the paperclip trick to see if your fan is working. Unplug harness in picture and rig like shown Haha, it should turn on as soon as you turn the key before it even cranks over.

As for my idle issue, I'm pretty sure its going to be that idle air control valve, but not sure yet

Just under 200 degrees is where mine runs now too (according to my stock gauge anyways)
My fan kicks on before my gauge says 210...not sure if my gauge is off or what, but not too worried about it.

As far as not having a thermostat, that's bad, and they are cheap, I think you want a 195 degree. Although...the blue gasket maker around your thermostat housing could be from po changing thermostat, may not need a new one. If its running cool and doesn't like to warm up, then you may be missing the thermostat. Either way, easy to find out. Pull it out (if there is one) and see if its stuck open, ****, or if sticky when compressed.
