Default Electric fan question.

So I just picked up a 98 sport coming from jks and tjs I finally made the jump. So my question is my electric fan seems to run even before the engine gets warm it will cycle on and off like every 15-20 seconds. I’m pretty sure that’s not right what should I be looking at? This is with the a/c off have not tried it with it on it’s cool right now. Someone give me some ideas of what to check.
thanks
joe

No defrost on doesn’t seem to matter what setting inside that it’s on it bounces on and off as soon as I start it up. Could there be a sensor issue no codes have come up.

I cannot think of any sensor issues. You may have a dash selector malfunction, calling for AC when the selector is not in that position. It is supposed to come on with defrost and AC

The sensor feeds the computer and the computer turns on the fan at approx. 220-225...its not as far past 210 as you would think but if the gauge is below 210 then its not turning on due to heat. Any AC mode also turns on the fan. If you have a dial mode selector then turn it to off and see if that fixes your problem. Relays usually drop out when they are defective, they don't usually turn on uncommanded

For the '98 (anything '99 and older, IIRC), the fan comes on around 217*. The last two model years ran hotter for emissions purposes.
