So let me see if I can explain this correctly.............

The electric radiator fan turns on for a short burst (1-2 seconds) every 30 seconds or so. It does it when the engine is cold and when it is warm. When the engine is warm it runs steady @ just under 200 degrees. When the fan goes on it bogs the engine down a bit. Is this something that would be controlled by the ECU or a switch on radiator or thermostat? Just don't know where to look first.

This is on a 98 Sport with 104K that I just bought.

 

this is normal, check your air flow direction dial. When in positioned to either full windshield flow or half floor and half windshield, the a/c compressor will cycle, this will cause the engine to "shutter",[it will idle down for a moment] the electric fan will run during this time. change your air flow to full floor or vent and this will stop occuring. try it.

 

Man do I feel stoopid! You are right! I'll just chalk it up to being a vehicle that I just bought and didn't know everything about it yet.
