Electrical issues solved
For the past 6 months I have had a check engine light on and intermittent electrical issues to include dying out and occasional starting issues. A few weeks ago it completely died and I could not get it restarted. It would crank but it would not restart and the check engine light would not come on at all. Before this my fuel gauge would stop working intermittently and my volt gauge would jump to 19 volts on occasions. I made the mistake of throwing parts at it instead of diagnosing it. I ordered a new PCM and replaced it. It did start, however my check engine light was still on and it died again. I started checking grounds and decided to look at the alternator since a lot of people were having alternator issues related to the code I was throwing (P1698). With the engine running I grabbed the alternator power lead and the engine died. I repeated this process several times to insure it was the source of my problem. The lead was tight so i removed it, cleaned it, and installed it. I also found a loose ground wire on the passenger side of the block. I cleaned and tightened the ground as well. I have not had any problems since this repair. just some food for thought since I dealt with this issue for so long and it was such a simple repair.
