electrics have mind of there own
Hi everyone, first of all Happy New Year to you all
I own a 1996 Grand Cherokee limited edition 4.0-litre full spec
84000 miles 2 lady owners & full service history lovely condition,
Im hoping someone can help with this one, I posted a similar thread a couple of months ago regarding the electrics,
Here goes, when I bought the jeep back in may 09 the previous owner told me sometimes the battery would go flat if not used regularly, not a problem must be a duff battery or alternator, so both were replaced, now since I bought her the rear wiper has always been intermittent, one day it would work fine then nothing for a few days also the memory for the seats would lose every time you turned the key off & on, now this has not really bothered me as nothing major, apart from these little things all fine, now back in oct flat battery again recharged battery and noticed that when you turn the key to the off position or remove it from the ignition the centre console screen would come on and warning of fog lamps out, decided to remove the battery and leave her standing for a while as not needed, now this is where it goes totally mad, changed all the fuses under the hood fitted another new battery and all was fine for 2 days great I thought, then one morning went to leave for work in the works van looked in the mirror to pull out and the jeeps head lights had come on full beam by them selves
Open the door and the light switch was in the off position?
Has anyone seen these sort of problems with other Cherokees or is mine possessed

Welcome Rod. Not too familiar with the electronic goodies in a Grand but I am wondering if you have a short in the Auto lamp circuit? You have a significant current drain somewhere. Replacing fuses is a start. Get your multimeter out and start looking for bad grounds etc. Could be that the ignition switch isn't completely shutting off even if you remove the key.

It would help to know what you've tried. Did you check the auto lamp circuit? Start by turning it off. ps don't copy your post in another. Also you may wish to go over to NAGCA.com as well.
