Default emergency!

So today i decided to replace the bracket holding the console cuz it was loose. To do that i had to remove the console itself. So i had to move the 2WD/4WD shifter to remove it. After i was all done it seems it is stuck in 4Wd as it accelerates slow and at 3000 RPM. Also this shifter now just moves freely so im assuming the linkage broke or came off. I dont know much aboyut 4Wd :/

1- how do i fix this, is it difficult? I dont use the 4WD so just getting it back to 2WD would be fine for now
This is a dire emergency cuz i just got a job and start on the 28th and there is no way i can drive this like this!! Help!!

if anyone is anywhere near Rocky point Long Island NY and can help i would be forever greatful!

The linkage is probably disconnected underneath. You will have to crawl underneath and re connect it

Yea i think you may be right. In the first photo you can see the shifter from the interior on the left, the black semi circle like thing. The red marked bolt, that whole rod is just dangling and i can move it up and down. So i think in the last photo, the red bolt should be through the yellow circled hole. But i really have no clue.

If i can just shift it back to 2WD from under the Jeep id be fine with that for now. Someone mentioned i can do that. Im just trying to figure out exactly what i need to move. i Think its this lever all the way forward for 2WD.

You can, you would have to disconnect some parts (and use multigrips to move the selector shaft into 2wd mode, this may not be easy)

Make sure you dont lose any parts, take pics.

Those selector parts look very rusty, definitely needs lube, preferably replacement

sorry, I dont know what position is 2wd, but should not be hard to work out

Yea i will replace the whole set up with the Azzys one eventually, but i dont do any 4 wheeling and never use the 4WD, so for now, just getting it back to 2WD (this is my daily and i just got a job so i NEED to be able to get there!) is the priority!

So transfer case is a 231, as i have 2H-4H-N-4L. I was able to move the tab on the transfer case one gear forward by hand, and when i move the shifter to line up the linkage as closely as possible it seems its in Neutral now, not 2WD i can line up the linkage by moving the interior shifter just slightly off (it has some play) and possibly get it reconnected. It is rusty though and i would likely need something to push it back in. Is it as simple as just popping it back in, or would adjustments need to be made? (again i dont use the 4WD, just need it in 2WD) Should i do that, or am i better off trying to get the transfer case tab to go the 2 more forward with a tool of some sort and leave it at that for now until i can just change out the whole linkage? I just dont want it to be all out of whack if i reattach it. I also dont want to try and move the transfer case tab forward and damage something if by chance it IS in 2WD now. It shifted fairly easily that one gear, (moved it with my bare hand) i'd assume it should move with the same pressure to get it into 2WD assuming its not? I just don't want to break anything and not be able to get it into 2WD by tuesday next week! Also this is an automatic trans if that matters in how i got about it. Should it be in Neutral on the standard shifter?

crisis averted! I was able to push the transfer case tab all the way forward with leverage using a hammer (not banging, prying) and it is now back in 2WD! thanks for all the help folks!

For now im keeping the linkage disconnected. I will upgrade it later on down the road! thanks again!
