Default Engine BLOCK Compatibility - 1995 and 2000

Ok so I am wondering .....

Would the 4.0 BLOCK ONLY --- from a 1995 go into a 2000

We acquired a 2000 that had a cracked head ....... new head was installed before we could get to it. Only about 20 miles since head installed and I am worried there might have been damage to bearings in bottom end.

Oil pressure sits about 40 when started, drops to 20 when hot.

Not really alarming to me at this time, but I have a 1995 XJ that we are taking off the road for good.

Can I take the block from the 1995, get it rebuilt ( maybe do it myself ) and use that block in the 2000 ?????

Only thinking about this because we are about to dismantle the 1995 and keeping the block to rebuild would be a winter project IF I can use it in the 2000 ????

Overhaul the 1995 block. slap the new 2000 head on it and be good??? Or NOT?

THANKS

Yes, the blocks swap. I gather it's just the heads with coil packs and different exhaust ports on 00 and 01 that are a problem to swap.

Myself, I might not worry about that oil pressure. Maybe verify it with a mechanical gauge and throw in an extra oil change to be sure all traces of coolant are gone. 146K?

"Overhaul the 1995 block. slap the new 2000 head on it and be good??? Or NOT?" Myself, I might just put the 95 engine in the barn (with it's head on), in case I needed it later...

Might be the way to go ..... however if it will be needed .... it will be needed ASAP and on short notice.

That's why I was thinking ..... pull the 95, tear it down, rebuild it, lubricate the devil out of it and set it aside.

Heck, I could even acquire another good 00/01 head and put it all together, then have a spare motor ready to drop in.

For the time being both the 95 and 00 will be tagged and road drivable.

Would be nice to have a good motor 'in the barn' and ready to go on a moments notice.
