New Wix filter installed sadly did not fix the knock, currently trying to upload a video, when I took off the filter already had some debris in the oil guess that means it's doing its job.

There's the knock after the Wix filter change, ended up going with the extended length filter.

"After reading around on here I've seen that knocking after a oil change is "normal" but I'm just overly concerned I guess.

Not normal at all. You say when you drained the oil after getting it home all you got was 2qts? Surely you checked the oil before leaving the PO's place? And the next day you added 6qts?

From what I can make out from your video maybe your not be getting oil to the lifters and top end. Don't believe I'd be running it any more until I checked that out.

I did, I knew it was low when I bought it. Only stated that so they'd have some idea of it's maintenance history.

If you read my post at all you'd see that I drained the old oil, hence how I knew it was only 2qts.

Where as you should have gotten around 6qts. So was there 4qts still in the motor, did you drive it home on only 2qts,or it was full when you left the PO's place and you lost 4qts? You put 6qts in the next day. What did it show on the dipstick afterwards?

Can't see it either. I'm REALLY HOPING the PO didn't put something in the motor to quiet it down so he could sell it.

there is nothing you could put in there to cover that up. that sounds like a broken valvetrain part. to the OP: I'm assuming you cut open the old oil filter and sifted through the pleats?

It didn't start out that bad though. If after removing the valve cover everything is where it should be I'd sure like to run it just long enough to see what's happening. Notice how still the engine is in the video?

I don't like the looks of those brown stains on the distributor cap. Looks like flash over.

Suggest you replace the cap, rotor, cables, and plugs.

Cap, rotor, and cables from NAPA. You can use Champion RC12LYC plugs.

What's that green fluid under the filler cap? Coolant?

Suggest you pull the valve cover and inspect the valve springs and see if there excessive play in the rocker(s).

I guess I'm going to have to reiterate my original post and add on.
When purchasing the Jeep I checked the dipstick. It showed low but oil was not absent. I accounted the low oil to 1) it was low (duh) and 2) it had just been driven (gives false reading as oil hasn't fully settled yet). I drove it home on low oil. A 10 minute drive never going above 2500rpms. The next day drained oil, only 2qts came out. (If your trying to say the other 4qts was some how deying gravity and floating inside the engine please don't post again). I changed the filter. Old filter didn't have dust or debris just gunk. I added 6qts of heavier than normal oil to try and ungunk the engine. Drove it for 500miles then left to idle for several hours. Left to cool. Changed oil again (by this point 1week has gone by and has successfully passed emmisions in my county and still no knocking). Drained heavier than normal oil. Got just under 6qts, accounted it to blowby as the airfilter was showing blackspots from oil. Added normal 10w-30 oil. Ran engine for about 20minutes before first knock, five minutes of knocks coming and going before it became constant.
Looking for advice on this particular motor. I rebuild and sell cars constantly. But those are 1.6-2.0L HONDAS. I have no experience with this motor. So I decided to ask for advice on a 4.0L XJ motor. The PO didn't even comprehend that his passenger door didnt open all the way because the fender was pushed in, kept saying a henge was broke. If he didn't have the mechanical know-how to notice the door was hitting the fender then I highly doubt he knew how to quiet the engine.
At this point I'm questioning why I even posted on this forum because 80% of questions asked would be solved if you simply read the original post.

Sorry if this seems rude but dang people you're driven me nuts.

The brown stains worried me a little to but since it was there before the knock I had decided to tackle one thing at a time.

The green fluid is the color of the lucas oil additive I used. The radiator fluid currenty is pink/red and has not gone down at all.

You know what. People here tried to give you advice. Suggested stuff to try. Guess what. Your engine is probably FUBAR. And of you didn't notice. We did give you advice what to check. Normally people check, report back and we give further advice. There's no answer to give on YOUR engine that's in front of YOU. Yes there may have been some smartass answers but if you read you would have seen the advice you were seeking. If this forum is too tough for you. Try Pirate. They'll take care of you.

And if you noticed I did try ALL advice given to me and responded with results. Maybe it's too tough for you
That post was directed at those giving smarta** answers not those who gave genuine advice.
