Good evening, I recently bought my first car, an 00' XJ. I bought it because my brother had one in high school and loved it and also because it is a great car to learn to work on. Anyways, it had been sitting in a garage for 16 years when I bought it so it needed some work (front suspension, radiator, leaf springs). The previous owner changed the head gasket as preventative maintenance. I go to college in PA and after a four hour drive to school the CEL came on. Ran diagnostics and got a couple misfire codes (cylinder 1, 5, and multiples). Took it to a local shop because I don't have access to my tools, they said it was the coil pack. Replaced it and was all good to go. Drove it about another 50 miles after and the CEL comes up again with the same codes. What do we think this might be? I also did have the spark plugs fully changed when I first bought it, and it is also missing the heat shield.

I think it could be a mechanic who does more guessing than troubleshooting.

I'd do a compression check for starters.

Also, check your grounds. All of them. See my sig, #1.
