Default Engine Replacement?

I will most likely replace my engine in the next 12 months.
1988, 4.0 Renix, 5 speed

What are my options for purchasing a long block. Such as do I go back with a Renix?
Do I go back with a throttle body or a carburetor?

What is a stroker engine?

You can use most of the early HOs if you can't find a Renix engine to build. Stay away from carbs.

I thought I read in your other thread that you had good compression in all cylinders. Don't replace it if you don't have too. But if that is what you decide, I went with a long block from one of the well-known auto parts stores. If you read the reviews on these engine manufactures, you will see people are either happy with their engines or very unhappy - there is very little in between. I am happy with my engine; it has 4000 miles on it now after almost a year and runs great. If I were to do it again, I would swap in a new Fel-Pro rear main seal before installation. The rear main seal in the engine failed immediately. The biggest reason I went with one of those engines was there was no shipping cost for the new engine or the return of the core. Another thing to consider if you decide to replace your engine, replacing the upper control arm bushings while the engine is out. There is not a lot of room up there and it is a particularly nasty job.
