I can show you pics of mine, been running like this since something in 2005.

Can you put some pics up please. Thanks

At work right now, Cherokee is on dry land... I can snag some pics on Wednesday... I'll see what I have hosted and toss them up in a bit though. I know I have a few older ones on photobucket.

Or you could see if the local self-service junk yard has a '96. I have learned a lot about how these things are put together by looking at the partially disassembled ones at the junk yards. Find one, take it apart and take some pictures for comparison.

This was all I had hosted that shows anything of help. The brackets were made from aluminum scrap I had lying around.

Stock 2000 block and intake, '93 head (7120) and VC with SS replacement exhaust manifold (Walker with expansion tubes) and rerouted exhaust piping to 91-98 specs. Had to adjust the driver side motor mount heat shield a tiny bit (made one 3" cut folded over and secured with screw). Was actually easier to put in than taking the stock manifold out ... more clearance.

Correct, use the earlier pre 2000 style exhaust manifold, you will need to relocate the O2 sensor bung for the 2000 location though. Harness doesn't reach (and I'm leery of adding splices into already shady stock wiring harnesses).

I'll try to get a good picture tomorrow when I get back to dry land.

Ok, and there were no computer issues? I didn't figure it would be that sensitive but I wasn't sure.

None, the computer uses the same sensors and a single upstream with a down stream O2 sensor same as a 96-99. And as far as engine function only the single forward O2 sensor is used (the rear merely confirms rear cat function).
The PCM problem arises if you have a California emissions 2000 or a 2001 with the pre cats on the manifold as they have more O2 sensors before and after the pre cats. With those you are stuck.

But looking at your picture you have the same manifolds I did. Pull them and you need to cut the Y out and add the earlier section of exhaust piping ... Join it in under the trans crossover portion.
The hardest part of the whole swap was figuring out the exhaust layout, the head issue was still relatively new back when I dealt with it. You have the benefit of numerous accounts of working fixes. My first mistake was not grabbing the exhaust down piping off the donor vehicle when I snagged the head and such off it. Take the exhaust pipe from manifold to other side of the trans if you can. Or find a good exhaust shop to make the pipe, i was unable to locate a manifold to cat pipe for a 91-99 when I dealt with it.
