I'd check te distributor first if it's misfiring.

i think i hear a vaccume leak on the manifold side but i have checked all the hoses... maybe a blown head gasket? i was overheating quite a bit one day cause of mud in radiator fins...

Maybe its just time to pull the plug on this engine.



time to get my 4.7 DONE!!!!! i just hope it dosent do this when i put the new engine in.

last ditch effort, changed the distributor. wasnt my coil packs but it was that!! fixed it. thanks for the suggestions all.

the distributor was what was wrong with mine as well.

giving me the same problems, "would not idle in Drive"

while driving shes FINE, but as I slow down to a stop DEAD, then crank right back up...

no codes, no vaccum leaks, no bad sensors, good fuel pump, good plugs/wires everything checked out.

I took my 93 (with 125k) to three different grease monkeys and NO ONE could find the problem, then finally broke down and took it to the dealer, i was @ my wits end and ready to give up!

$525 later but I cant lie I was GLAD to pay it, shes running like a champ

yea i fixed her. i have a parts jeep though.

week later i replaced my hub bearings and melted my piston that afternoon...

So what was the fix ? New distributor ?! Mine is doing the same thing when I come to a stop !

replace the whole distributor or just the cap?

00/01 xj's don't have distributers it was probably the camshaft position sensor and oil pump drive unit that you replaced. Too bad to hear about the engine going. Always nice to have a backup stroker waiting though.

right the "distributer thingy" as i have previously stated lol

The DANG shop wont quote me yet cause theyre busy. calling them today to hound em. I WANT MY RACE ENGINE!!!
