Default Engine swap

Hi y'all,

I just finished installing a new engine in my 94 XJ. I've reconnected all the plugs back. When i turn the key the engine turns, but wont start. So I tried to see if ibwas getting a spark (not sure if i was doing it right). I took one of my plugs out and reconnected it to the wire.i touched the plug to a screw that was at the back of my AC compressor. It that okay? But i didn't get any spark. So I thought maybe it might be the distributor. So in pluged the center wire from it and pluged one of my older spark plugs and did the same as before, i had no luck, still no spark.

My question is, could anyone give me any pointers. If i am doing it right, what should i check next and what is the best way to check it.

Thank you

There's also that piece right before the distributor I forget what it's called. If that's gone out then your distributor won't give off spark.

If you're talking about the coil pack everything was working before I did the swap. What is the best way to check that?

To be honest with you I don't know a good way to test it. I'd just get a new one and plug it in to see and if it isn't that just return it. Did you check different plugs too just in case you had one bad one?

That and I'd also check the alignment of the distro. I never had much luck checking spark out on any car (Texas sun too damn bright probably) but when I needed a new distro my biggest issue was it being misaligned. If you crank it over and get a big loud pop then your distro is off by a tooth or two.
