Default Engine Swap Woes

Well, I’ve been sorta searching on here for the last few days for the answers to my questions, but it seems the only thing I’ve really done is find more questions. I suppose I should start at the beginning. I bought my 95 Jeep Cherokee for $300. I’ve had it for about 8 months now, and have been working to make it offroad ready the entire time. About 3 weeks ago, I was driving on the highway and happened upon some black ice, which ended with it on the driver’s side on the side of the road. After spending what seemed a fortune to have it towed to a salvage yard, released, and then towed back home I had the body looked at. The damage is misleading. The A-pillar is pushed in about an inch and a half, and most of the driver’s side is pushed in to a less degree. The shop I had look at it gave a quote of $1k just to right the pillar. That didn’t include the new windshield, doors, or any of the remaining body damage. So I decided to find another once in a lifetime deal.

Low and behold, yesterday I found a 97 Cherokee for $500. The paint is in rough shape, and the interior looks like it was lived in by homeless people, but it is a rolling body that is sort of a diamond in the rough. Since the 95 can still run, drive, and all the 4x4 stuff works, I had planned on doing a straight swap. Now comes the problems I have convinced myself are actual problems.

I want to swap the 95 4.0 HO into the 97 body. I know from other vehicles I’ve owned that the switch from OBD1 to OBD2 happened sometime between 95-97 depending on what vehicle you are driving. I read for the Cherokee that it happened in 96. What sort of changes do I need to make to my 95 4.0 HO to make it ready for the 97 computer?

The 97 is 2wd, is there a difference in the computer for a 4x4 from the computer for a 2wd?

What sensors do I need replace? I heard it might just be a harness, but again I am unsure.

What other changes do I need to pay attention to? I haven’t really spent a lot of time looking over the 97 yet so I haven’t personally noticed any physical changes.
